No IR Return For WR Terrance Williams, Is His Career Over in Dallas?

You may have forgotten, but Wide Receiver Terrance Williams is still technically a member of the Dallas Cowboys. We haven’t really seen him much this season and I wouldn’t expect him in uniform anytime soon, especially if Clarence Hill Jr’s report the Cowboys don’t plan on bringing him back from Injured Reserve is true.

It’s really not that big of a surprise the Dallas Cowboys don’t plan on bringing back Terrance Williams from IR this season. With the addition of Amari Cooper and the emergence of rookie WR Michael Gallup, Williams has become an afterthought amongst the Cowboys receivers. Many of you have probably forgotten he was still actually on the team.

Williams’ future with the organization has already been in doubt and this could be further evidence his time in Dallas could be coming to an end. The shocking thing is, this comes just a little over a year after he signed a four-year contract extension, which is starting to look like money thrown down the drain by the Cowboys.

But, I don’t know if I would count out Williams’ playing days in Dallas over just yet. The reason I say this is because they could’ve easily released him earlier in the offseason when he was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Why didn’t they pull the trigger then? Is it because they still value him or something else?

Unfortunately, we won’t get the answers to these or any other questions for a while now. But, that doesn’t mean we can’t still speculate as to what might be going on. That’s part of the fun of being on the outside of things and wondering what’s going on behind closed doors.

Personally, I would’ve already moved on from T-Will. I think the Cowboys have upgraded their outside receivers with Gallup and Cooper, which doesn’t leave much room for Williams any longer. That’s just my opinion though.

The Cowboys however may still have a plan for Williams beyond this season. With Cole Beasley set to become a free agent after the completion of this year, the depth at the WR position could be depleted. A veteran like Williams could come in handy, at least until they find better/cheaper options.

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit if the Cowboys move Amari Cooper into the slot next season if Beasley leaves and have Michael Gallup and Terrance Williams as their outside receivers. But again, this is purely speculation on my part.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a little intrigued as to what the Dallas Cowboys plan on doing with Terrance Williams moving forward. I can see both the positives and negatives of him staying as well as the positives and negatives of him leaving. It’s going to be really interesting to see what happens.
