NY Giants Hire Jason Garrett as new Offensive Coordinator

If you can’t beat ’em, make them your Offensive Coordinator. That’s what the New York Giants decided today, hiring ex-Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett to run their offense in 2020.

Garrett’s tenure with Dallas ended two weeks ago when Mike McCarthy was named the new head coach of the Cowboys. Jason served as HC from the middle of the 2010 season through 2019 and was also Dallas’ OC for about 3.5 years beginning in 2007.

The Giants have lost six straight games to the Cowboys and are 6-13 overall during Jason Garrett’s head-coaching career. That certainly played a factor in their decision, much like McCarthy’s dominance over the Cowboys during his time with the Packers.

Gaining Garrett’s inside information on the Cowboys is another boon for New York, though Dallas may not look the same by September. McCarthy has nearly cleaned house on the coaching staff, which includes replacing WR Coach Sanjay Lal with the Browns’ Adam Henry earlier today.

Even if Jason can’t tell the Giants much about the 2020 Cowboys, he is a respected coach who has proven he can coordinate a league-leading offense. His head coaching experience will also the benefit newly-hired Joe Judge.

As if games between the Cowboys and Giants needed any more intrigue, next year’s meetings are going to be especially interesting.
