#NYJvsDAL: Betting Preview, Trends, And Prediction

In what will be the first time fans hear former quarterback Tony Romo’s voice over a Cowboys game in 2019, Dallas travels to New Jersey to take on the Jets this week.

Dallas enters the game a disappointing 3-2, but one look across the sideline will make you feel quite optimistic about the Cowboys 2019 season in comparison. The Jets have been awful this season, and come into Sunday’s match-up a 7.5 point home underdog.

Let’s get into this line and make a prediction.

The Line

Cowboys -7.5. O/U 43 points.

Dallas Cowboys

Yikes.

Two weeks ago the Dallas Cowboys looked like a Super Bowl contender, but after two straight losses to two elite NFC foes, the Cowboys have fallen off the top of the mountain rather quickly. Dallas needs to get a win on the road against the lowly Jets this week, and based on the spread, Vegas believes they should do so pretty handily.

As bad as the Jets have been, the Cowboys have a plethora of issues in their own right. Their run defense was completely dominated by the Green Bay Packers a week ago, and their offense shot themselves in the foot time and time again, despite moving the ball rather effectively.

Following this week’s game against the Jets the Cowboys will play the Philadelphia Eagles, likely for control of first place in the division. They can’t be looking ahead to this game, though. They need to take care of business against the winless Jets.

Anything less will be disastrous.

New York Jets

Anything that can go wrong, has gone wrong for the New York Jets in 2019. They came into the season a dark horse Wild Card team in the AFC, but due to injury, illness, and general incompetence they now sit winless through the first five weeks of the season.

If you are a Jets fan looking for a bright side, though, you get one with the return of quarterback Sam Darnold. Darnold showed flashes that he could be the franchise leader of the future at the end of 2018, but hasn’t played much at all yet during his Sophomore season.

Having Darnold back should immediately help this offense look at least professional, but there’s no excuse for the Cowboys defense if they fail to spoil Darnold’s return.

The Jets have been really bad, almost as bad as the Dolphins have, and the Cowboys must take advantage of having this game on their schedule.

Trends

  • The score total has gone over in 6 of the Cowboys’ last 8 games.
  • The Cowboys are 4-1-1 against the spread their last 6 games against the Jets.
  • The Jets are 1-5 against the spread their last 6 games.
  • The Jets are 0-7 outright their last 7 home games.
  • The Jets are 1-8 outright their last 9 games against the NFC.

Prediction

If they are worth anything this season, the Dallas Cowboys will dominate the New York Jets on Sunday. I’m going to take the Cowboys -7.5 this week because I do still believe they are one of the better teams in the NFC.

Dak Prescott will, hopefully, play a mistake free game and the defense will have a get-right game against this putrid offense. Dallas should have enough to win this game, though I might look to tease it down to 1.5 points if I were actually putting money on it.

Let’s take Cowboys -1.5 and over 37 points in a six point teaser.
