It’s difficult to get over the Dallas Cowboys drafting Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb. As we look ahead to the 2020 NFL season, the rookie from Oklahoma is perhaps the one player fans are more excited about. Considered by many the biggest steal of this year’s Draft with the 17th pick, Lamb was expected to be picked in the Top 15, maybe even Top 10.
The floor for Lamb seemed to be the Denver Broncos with the 15th pick. Before them, potential landing spots for Lamb included the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Bucs, Las Vegas Raiders. But as it turns out, there might’ve been another NFC team with a Top 10 pick that could’ve taken CeeDee Lamb’s talent elsewhere.
On Wednesday, Quarterback Kyler Murray confirmed he lobbied the Arizona Cardinals to draft Lamb.
#Cardinals QB Kyler Murray confirmed to reporters today that he lobbied the team to draft former Oklahoma teammate CeeDee Lamb at No. 8 in the Draft: "Hell, I play quarterback. You can never have too many weapons."

This isn’t at all surprising, considering Murray paired up with Lamb during his time playing for the Oklahoma Sooners. After being drafted with the first overall pick in 2019, Kyler played lights out as a rookie and is one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league.
CeeDee Lamb would’ve been a great weapon to add to a dynamic offense led by Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury. Just imagine the Cardinals’ offense featuring Larry Fitzgerald and DeAndre Hopkins and adding Lamb. He was, after all, considered by many the best wide receiver prospect in this year’s rookie class.
However, it would’ve been difficult for the Cardinals to let Isaiah Simmons fall beyond pick #8. Simmons’ versatility made him one of the most coveted defensive players of the year and Arizona won’t regret drafting him over Lamb. However, you can’t help wondering what could’ve been.
Instead, you know the story. CeeDee Lamb was drafted by Jerry Jones while he sat on his superyacht and the Cowboys began what now seems like a very dominant Draft.
Lamb arrives just in time for an offense that’ll be driven by Mike McCarthy and Kellen Moore. While the Cowboys already had a very solid starting duo of receivers, there wasn’t anything close to a clear-cut third starter. The Cowboys get just that in Lamb, whose run-after-catch abilities will give Dak Prescott an additional big-play threat in the passing game.
Kyler Murray’s comments serve as a reminder of how fortunate the Cowboys were to find Oklahoma’s product with the 17th pick. In any normal year, social media timelines would surely be featuring a handful of impressive plays in the team’s workouts. However, due to the current situation, players won’t be reporting to team facilities until July.
It’s nice to hear Kyler Murray say he would’ve liked to have Lamb on his huddle.
The bright side for the Cardinals Quarterback is that he’ll get a chance to say hello to his old teammate on October 19th, when his team visits the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium for a Monday Night Football showdown in Week 6.
But CeeDee Lamb will be wearing the silver and blue with #88 on his back. If all goes according to plan, he’ll be having one hell of a rookie season, too. But hey, in the meantime, remember how we mentioned not having Lamb practice videos on our timelines? This is the closest thing out there and it’s awesome. Enjoy.
Cowboys fans will love to see it:
