A Quarterback Loaded Class Will Help the Cowboys in the 2018 NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys hold the 19th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. It’s not a great spot to be in after a 9-7 season, but that’s the way it is. They’re at a spot in which they might end up seeing their top guys taken before they’re on the clock. Fortunately, there are a lot of good quarterbacks in the Draft this year.

Now, the Cowboys have their QB. Dak Prescott, despite having a tough season last year, is the player who’ll lead this franchise in 2018 and probably even longer. While I do agree that if he has another tough year, evaluating the position wouldn’t be wrong at all, Dak Prescott is the guy for now.

Even still, these quarterbacks will end up helping America’s Team.

Obviously, Dallas isn’t going to draft a quarterback in the first round. But the NFL is a QB-needy league, and other teams will pass on better players to roll the dice at the most important position in sports.

Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson could all go in the first round in April. These are all guys who some will say are not first-round talent, but as I said… it’s a QB-needy league.

Heck, I won’t be surprised when as much as four quarterbacks are taken in the top 10. Last year, Patrick Mahomes was a top-10 pick. He was drafted by a team that wasn’t even planning on playing him in 2017. They actually traded up to get him!

The Chicago Bears, after signing Mike Glennon for a lot of money, went ahead and gave a fortune to the 49ers to climb one spot and draft Mitchell Trubisky. The Houston Texans also traded up to get Deshaun Watson. Now, we all saw what Watson ended up playing like, but he was one of the most controversial prospects before the Draft.

Teams drafting quarterbacks early will result in top talent falling. Some will naturally go before the Cowboys pick, but they will certainly benefit from this QB class.

Another way they can benefit is pretty simple. The Cowboys pick at 19th. After them, the Bills, Saints and even the Jaguars might be looking for a QB.

If the Cowboys don’t feel like taking a player and wish to trade down, they’ll probably have some offers by teams trying to trade up and get a QB before another team does.

The Dallas Cowboys aren’t looking for a quarterback this offseason, but they’ll still find a way to benefit from a very heavy quarterback class. Is it April yet?

I love to write, I love football and I love the Dallas Cowboys. I've been rooting for America's team all the way from Mexico ever since I can remember. If you want to talk football, I'm in... You'll find me at @MauNFL.
