Reports indicate that Offensive Lineman Parker Ehinger, a fourth-round pick in 2016, is the player coming to Dallas from Kansas City.

Plenty of roster cuts are coming in the next 48 hours, but the Dallas Cowboys are already saying goodbye to one player. They are reportedly trading Cornerback Charvarius Ward to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The compensation from the Chiefs is not yet known. Given that no other player is named from their side, draft picks are likely what’s involved in this transaction.

Ward was one of the leading candidates to make the Cowboys’ 53-man roster at the bottom of the CB depth chart. Clearly, the Chiefs liked him as well.

We could see Kansas City just send the Cowboys a draft pick, or the team may swap picks in a way that gives Dallas some added value. Either way, the Cowboys will be getting something back on a guy they signed as an undrafted free agent last Spring.

The impact of this move on the Cowboys’ roster could go one of two ways. Obviously, his departure makes it easier for one of Kam Kelly, Duke Thomas, or Marquez White to make the team. For all we know, one of them was going to make it over Ward anyway.

On the other hand, this could signify that Dallas is planning to go long at another position and take just four corners into Week One. Given Xavier Woods’ injury at safety, they may want an extra guy there temporarily.

We can’t be sure yet what this means. But barring some snag in the deal, Charvarius Ward will be headed all the way from the NFC East to the AFC West.
