The Dallas Cowboys have been dealing with a few key injuries lately, specially at the linebacker position. Leighton Vander Esch’s neck has been an issue that’s led to the star linebacker to miss multiple games. Last week, Joe Thomas and Luke Gifford (who will need surgery) were both injured during the game, bringing in even more concern at the position.
While Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee are good linebackers, the team needs depth to finish out the season. Not to mention, Lee is dealing with injuries himself and we’ve witnessed what’s likely to happen if he continues to play all game every week.
Jane Slater from NFL Network reports the Cowboys are interested in LB Malcolm Smith.
The #Cowboys have an interest in signing LB Malcolm Smith per source. Smith played with Seattle and won the Super Bowl MVP in 2013. A free agent he would give them depth with LVE nursing neck stinger and Luke Gifford out for the season with fractured arm

Currently a free agent, Smith has played with the Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and the Jacksonville Jaguars. His stay in Seattle was highlighted by his MVP performance in Super Bowl XLVIII, when the Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos.
Smith finished the Super Bowl with a 69-yard pick six, a fumble recovery and he set the tone with 10 total tackles. He became the seventh defensive player to earn the Super Bowl MVP award.
The Cowboys need to make a move at this linebacker and Malcolm Smith sounds like a great choice. The 30-year old linebacker might be past his prime, but with only two regular season games left to go, he seems like a solid addition to the team.
According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys are also working out Ray-Ray Armstrong, who played five games with the New Orleans Saints this season.
