REPORT: Dallas Cowboys Sign EDGE Tarell Basham to a 2-year Contract

The Dallas Cowboys have had a busy Thursday afternoon in free agency. First they sign Carlos Watkins and Brent Urban to help fortify the interior of their defensive line and now they’ve added more depth at defensive end in former New York Jets EDGE Tarell Basham.

Tarell Basham was a former third-round pick in 2017 by the Indianapolis Colts, but has spent the last three seasons in New York with the Jets. He was someone the Dallas Cowboys were rumored to have an interest in pre-draft in 2017, which is likely why they pulled the trigger on signing him in free agency.

The 6’4″, 266 pound former Ohio University product played in all 16 games last year and started nine of them. He recorded 19 solo tackles, 12 assists, four QB sacks, and three forced fumbles which earned him a PFF grade of 64.6.

With the Dallas Cowboys the 27-year-old will provide some much-needed depth at defensive end behind projected starters DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory. And while it’s not the splashes of moves it is yet another solid offseason in addition that should help solidify the Cowboys defensive front.
