The saga surrounding the contract negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and star Running Back Ezekiel Elliott doesn’t look like it will come to an end any time soon. Jane Slater from the NFL Network is reporting that an “informed source” states that the two sides aren’t close to getting a contract extension completed that could make Ezekiel Elliott the highest-paid running back in the NFL.
How close is this Zeke deal to getting done? A source informed told me, “close? Nope.” So, what are the sticking points? The guarantee? Length? “Everything” #ZekeWatch

The discussions took a turn late last week as the Dallas Cowboys left for Oxnard, California and Ezekiel Elliott was listed as a “did not report” after missing his scheduled physical on Friday. Then Elliott left for Mexico to train while the Dallas Cowboys and his representatives continue to hash things out over his contract extension.
With the report that “everything” is a sticking point in the negotiations at this point, there doesn’t appear to be an end in sight.
The Dallas Cowboys recently reunited with Running Back Alfred Morris who should now be seen as insurance if Elliott isn’t available to start the season and if Darius Jackson and the rookie running backs Tony Pollard and Mike Weber are unable to handle the running back responsibilities.
The Cowboys don’t open the regular season for 39 days when they host the New York Giants. That’s plenty of time for the Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott to come to an agreement.
Until then, the Dallas Cowboys get to see what Tony Pollard and Mike Weber can do with the first-team offense and Ezekiel Elliott gets to avoid any of the bumps and bruises that come with training camp.
