Throughout the 2018 NFL Season, there’s been constant speculation surrounding Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett’s future with the organization.
Even before the Dallas Cowboys winning eight of their last 10 games to finish the season and advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs, most Cowboys observers thought Garrett would be back in 2019 regardless. Now, Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network is reporting that the Dallas Cowboys and Jason Garrett will look to work out a contract extension in the offseason.

Garrett is the coach that Jerry Jones has always wanted to be his Tom Landry. A guy that he brings into the organization and stays with the team for the length of his career, while having postseason success along the way. And as the Owner and General Manager for the team, you know it delights Jerry to see Jason have the kind of success he’s hadn’t over the last five seasons.
To refresh your memory, since 2014 under Jason Garrett, the Dallas Cowboys have:
- Won the NFC East three times.
- Been to the Divisional round of the playoffs three times.
- Had four winning seasons.
- Transitioned at the QB position from Tony a Romo to Dak Prescott.
- Only losing season since 2014 was in 2015 with Kellen Moore, Matt Cassell, and Brandon Weeden at quarterback.
Many in Cowboys Nation still would rather see Jason Garrett gone, but that isn’t going to happen. He’s been a great leader for this team. His players fight for him and for each other. He’s created a team culture that has them playing at a really high level for much of the last five seasons and the Cowboys aren’t done as far as this season goes.
They have a real shot to knock off the Los Angeles Rams tonight and advance to their first NFC Championship since 1996. Whether they win tonight or not will have zero influence on Jones extending Jason Garrett. He’s the Cowboys coach for the long haul.
After the 3-5 start to the season, Garrett is a big reason the team continued to fight. Now let’s hooe they can finish it with a sixth Lombardi Trophy.
