The Dallas Cowboys have their new head coach in Mike McCarthy, and now he has the task of filling out his staff. We now have an update on how the change up top could impact Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore.
The following was tweeted by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport this morning:
Update on #Cowboys OC Kellen Moore: New coach Mike McCarthy would like him to stay and remain OC, which may also help Moore learn a new system. But he also has an opportunity to go back home and become the University of Washington OC under Jimmy Lake. He is mulling it all over.

Lake and Moore have familiarity through Chris Petersen, who just stepped down as the head coach for the Huskies. Prior to coaching at Washington, Petersen was at Boise Sate with Moore as his quarterback.
Lake joined the Boise St. staff the year after Kellen left for the NFL. While they’ve never actually been in the same place at the same time, they no doubt have become connected through Petersen.
The Cowboys put a lot of faith in Moore by promoting him to OC in 2019 after just one year as the quarterbacks coach. His offense produced big yardage but still had some situational limitations, with a major issue in how the high-priced Ezekiel Elliott was utilized.
But if Rapoport’s news is accurate as usual, then Moore does have a future with the Cowboys. While Mike McCarthy is an offensive mind with his own style, he clearly sees good things in the young coordinator that he’d like to work with.
However, Kellen Moore appears to have some other possibilities. Will he choose to stay in Dallas, or will the Cowboys be left with another big hole to fill?
