REPORT: NFL Insiders “Skeptical” Of League’s 2020 Schedule

I, like many of you, have spent the last two weeks working from home. “Self isolating” from the regular office in an effort to “flatten the curve.”

As COVID-19 madness seems to take over every day life, sports have been far from immune from the effects.

Each currently active sports league has gone dormant, from the NBA and NHL suspending play mid-season to the MLB postponing the start of their own regular season to a date to be named later.

All but the NFL, that is.

So far the NFL has remained active, stealing headlines with free agency over the last couple of weeks. They even plan to keep the 2020 NFL Draft on schedule for late April although the method to the draft will likely have to change.

Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman is reporting that it won’t be business as usual for much longer, however.

Mike Freeman cited a text from an NFL coach this week which told him that he doesn’t see how there won’t be “massive delays” to the NFL calendar. Including a delay to the regular season.

These rumors are coming on the heels of speculation around whether or not OTA’s will even be able to happen, as teams are forced to close down their workout and practice facilities for the foreseeable future.

“I just don’t think the OTAs are going to happen at all. I hope I’m wrong. I’m hoping we can get some players in in June, but I’m sort of doubtful of that.”

The league has already closed all team facilities through April 8th, planning to reassess the situation at that time.

At this point – there really is no way to predict how COVID-19 will impact the 2020 regular season. The MLB is reportedly aiming for a May regular season start, while the NBA has talked about kicking off again as late as June.

Ultimately, no one knows. These are uncertain times for just about all of us, and the NFL is not above the uncertainty.
