After a brief and bad run as offensive coordinator, Jason Garrett has been fired by the New York Giants. The former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys joined the Giants in 2020 as OC but has had one the NFL’s worse offenses during his tenure.
Fired by the Cowboys after an 8-8 finish in 2019 and numerous other disappointments during his 10-year run as head coach, Garrett stayed within the division and took the OC job in New York as part of Joe Judge’s new coaching staff. The Giants had the second-worst offense in 2020 and are only 23rd so far this season.

The #Giants relieved OC Jason Garrett of his duties a short time ago. He is the first NFL coach — head coach, coordinator or position coach — fired this season. (Jon Gruden resigned in October.)

A likely successor to Jason Garrett as the Giants' play caller is current tight ends coach Freddie Kitchens.
He stepped into that role last year when Garrett was out for a game due to COVID-19.

Garrett has spent nearly his entire NFL career in the NFC East. He was a backup QB for the Cowboys from 1993-1999 and then played for the Giants from 2000-2003.
After a brief stint with Miami as a player and coach, Jason returned to Dallas in 2007 to serve as offensive coordinator for 3.5 years. He took over as head coach after Wade Phillips was fired during the 2010 season.
With QB Daniel Jones still floundering in his third season, the Giants need to make a move that will help their former 1st-Round pick find his NFL groove. At 3-7 and with little hope for this year, New York is making a big midseason change in the hope of a better long-term future.
