Newly hired head coach Mike McCarthy is continuing to build his staff. According to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, Texas A&M cornerbacks coach Maurice Linguist will be leaving the college ranks to join the Dallas Cowboys as their secondary coach.

Maurice Linguist replaces Kris Richard, the team’s former secondary coach and passing game coordinator who was once thought of as their future defensive coordinator. Linguist has been a hot defensive candidate in college over the past two years.
After serving as Mississippi State’s secondary coach in 2016, he was promoted to assistant head coach for the Minnesota Gophers while retaining his defensive back duties. Linguist’s unit ranked 11th in passing defense in 2018, earning him the cornerbacks’ job at Texas A&M the following season.
Linguist has been a coach for 13 years with stops at Baylor, JMU, Buffalo, Iowa State, Valdosta State, Minnesota, Texas A&M, and Mississippi State along the way. He was also the position coach for current Cowboys’ safety Donovan Wilson in 2018.
