It’s been a roller coaster offseason for the Dallas Cowboys.

On one hand they’ve been able to keep Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper around for the 2020 season, and they’ve added veteran defensive tackle Gerald McCoy to their front seven. But on the other hand, the Cowboys have lost a ton of talent, including center Travis Frederick to a surprise retirement earlier this week.

They also lost wide receiver Randall Cobb, who was the number three passing threat for Dallas during the 2019 season. They’ll need to replace Cobb, and should be quite active in the coming weeks to do so, whether through the draft or free agency.

One under the radar player Dallas could target for this role, is former Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Breshad Perriman.

A former first round pick, Perriman was considered a massive bust up until recently. Never short on raw talent, Perriman’s production never seemed to match his perceived talent level or ceiling. But last season, when placed in a prolific passing offense and given number one type targets due to injury, Perriman shined.

Breshad Perriman caught 36 balls for 645 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2019, though he didn’t really get a shot to shine until late in the season. Once he got that opportunity Perriman looked pretty good, breaking 100 yards receiving in each of his three starts.

He would instantly provide the Cowboys another downfield threat, someone who could take the top off the defense with his athleticism, potentially freeing things up for Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup underneath.

Oh, and Perriman is just 26 years old.

Now if the team is deciding between a potential bargain bin flyer on someone like Breshad Perriman, and drafting a receiver like Jerry Jeudy 17th overall, the decision is clear. You take the star first round receiver and try to make this a Chiefs level passing offense.

But if the Cowboys don’t have early draft plans for the receiver position, Breshad Perriman could be an interesting name to look at in free agency.
