The Dallas Cowboys plan on handing out contract extensions to Quarterback Dak Prescott, Running Back Ezekiel Elliott, and Wide Receiver Amari Cooper at some point in the near future, but what the numbers will end up looking like is completely up in the air. Well… Maybe not. Sportrac just predicted the type of money the Cowboys could be paying their top three offensive playmakers via Twitter.

Now, I’m no salary cap expert, but I think all parties involved would be happy if this is the way the contract extensions actually went down. I know it seems like a lot of money, because it is, but it is also fair market value for the types of players Prescott, Zeke, and Cooper are for the positions they play. It’s just the nature of the business.
Keeping these three together is definitely in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys, but it also means they may have to give up on keeping someone like Byron Jones or La’el Collins who are both entering contract years in 2019. Losing Jones would be a tough pill to swallow after the way he played last year, but luckily the Cowboys may already have Collins’ replacement on the roster.
I think it’s important to remember the salary cap in the NFL continues to rise every year and even though the amount of money the Cowboys would be paying out to their top offensive playmakers seems like a lot, it may not be in a few years time. That of course doesn’t make these kinds of decisions any easier, but it is something to keep in mind for future reference.
