The time of the year has come when we hear the same recycled material from the front office over and over again.
That started on Tuesday, the second day of the NFL Scouting Combine. Stephen Jones was bombarded with several questions all of us fans have been wondering about since the playoff loss to the Packers.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones, who is on the NFL Competition Committee, said the conversation on a potential rule change for fumbling out of the end zone “died.” Rule change not happening, at least in 2024.

Update on Dak Prescott’s New Contract
We did not get a whole lot from this, which was anticipated, but Like at the Senior Bowl, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones declined to give an update regarding Dak Prescott’s contract, or any other player.
He didn’t say whether the two sides have begun talks, and wouldn’t even mention if the team is to meet with Prescott’s agent this week at the combine.
As I noted, this was a given. A deal of this size is expected to take another month or so.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones on if they want to get a contract extension done with Dak Prescott: “Oh yes, absolutely.”
Jones said they have not thought about life without Prescott. “Our whole thing with Dak is him being a Cowboy. That’s all that’s on our mind.” pic.twitter.com/GeAYuJqSCy

Jones did say he wants Prescott to be the Cowboys’ signal caller long-term.
He also said that he not only wants to get a deal done with Prescott but also CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons.
Injury Updates
Both Trevon Diggs and DeMarvion Overshown both tore their ACLs in 2023, but will be back for camp, Jones said.
Overshown was early in camp and could have been a massive boost with the Dallas awful linebacking core. Him coming back will allow the Cowboys to pass on a linebacker in the first round and draft something else of need that early.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones had injury return updates on players like CB Trevon Diggs and LB DeMarvion Overshown, who are expected back for camp. He stopped short on LB Leighton Vander Esch, whose neck injury has been considered career-threatening. “Leighton will speak to that.” pic.twitter.com/ghxWVJNvR5

When the loss to Diggs happened, it felt like the entire world was ending.
Trading for Stephon Gilmore proved valuable because he had to take over the role of CB1. Gilmore is set to be a free agent, but has already said on a local Dallas radio station that he wants to return to Dallas to try and get a ring.
He said the core is there, and wants to run it back.
No Culture Problem?
Jones said that he feels good about the culture, but they always wanna be better.
I honestly would like to know… If you have not been to a NFC title game in over 25 years and fewer than 5 playoff wins since 1996, what is this then?
They change coaches, they add players here and there. Signing Terrell Owens who was a firs team All Pro in Dallas. Trade for Amari Cooper, but they could have done plenty more.

Maybe you don’t think the team has one, because you are more concerned about talking to the press than winning championships. We brought up the fact they have won 36 games over three years, blah, blah, blah.
Yet all three of those resulted in one playoff win, and before you bring up the fact they can’t win because of Prescott, I agree to an extent, but this team didn’t win anything with Romo either!
Maybe I am just sick of losing all the time, but at some point, this team has to get it right, I hope.
I am sure it is only a matter of time before we hear from Jerry. Mike McCarthy and Mike Zimmer are not attending in person this year, so we will get nothing short of a lot of gibberish over the next week.
