Dallas will have a chance to make a statement early in the season when they go on the road week five to take on the defending Super Bowl champions.

I would feel great about the Cowboys sitting at worst 2-and-2 when they take on the Rams.

I understand the notion lingering around Dak Prescott. He can’t beat anyone with a winning record, but you can count on one hand the number of quarterbacks that have done it with consistency. Winning in this league is hard.

The first key to this matchup is SoFi Stadium. When the Cowboys played the Chargers last season, Prescott said he didn’t have to use the silent count once. CeeDee Lamb added that it felt like a home game.

Something to keep an eye on for the TV broadcast: the number of Cowboys fans in attendance. Walking into SoFi Stadium, the breakdown of jerseys/hats/t-shirts might have been 70-30 Cowboys.

Secondly, the rams will be coming off back-to-back road games and will be on a short week as they play on Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers in week four.

The grind of the first few weeks always seems to wear teams down. With the Cowboys being able to play at home the week before with one additional day of rest, it may play a factor.

With that said, It may be early enough to catch the Rams on a bad day. We know Dallas can play with anyone in this league, but they seem to shoot themselves in the foot at the wrong time.

I learned a lot from last year, from winning on the road against the New England Patriots to beating the Vikings with Cooper Rush calling plays. Those are two types of games they have lost in recent years.

I can’t tell you the Cowboys will win this game, but the few things I mentioned above may impact the outcome.

The help of a split crowd at Sofi Stadium and the rams on a short week may lead to Dallas catching them at the right time. It might be enough to help the Cowboys prevail.
