The Cowboys are coming off an impressive 22-10 win against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams, this past Sunday. The Dallas defense once again held the opposing team to just one touchdown, and the ‘Boys are starting to look like a complete team.
With a huge divisional match-up against the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles looming this Sunday on national television, it’s time for the Cowboys to show the world who they truly are.
The Dallas Cowboys are heavily relying on their defense and running game while starting quarterback Dak Prescott heals from the broken thumb injury he suffered during week 1. When Prescott got injured, it seemed all hope was lost for the Cowboys this year, especially after the putrid performance they displayed against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – and trust me, fans have not forgotten just how awful their quarterback and team played.
But the Cowboys didn’t flinch. The Cowboys have marched out onto the field for four weeks straight and have stacked wins against every team they have played since week 1. This Dallas defense is wrecking opposing offenses and is single-handedly winning these games. But is that sustainable?
Yes — defense wins championships. But sooner or later the Cowboys are going to have to put up more points to win games and rely on the passing game to extend drives for them in tough matchups against offenses that know how to score points.
This past week against the Rams, Cooper Rush completed only 10 of his sixteen pass attempts and threw for only 102 yards with zero touchdowns. The Cowboys only obtained 10 first downs the entire game. That is not a winning formula for football.
The Philadelphia Eagles do not have any weaknesses across the board. They have skilled players at every position and can hurt you in many different ways. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles offense can score points, and it will be interesting to see how the Cowboys can match those points with an offense that is severely struggling.
To beat this Eagles team, the Cowboys need to be complete on all sides of the ball.
The Cowboys defense cannot carry this team each and every week. Micah Parsons was seen during the game against the L.A. Rams visibly in pain and seemed to be banged up. The defense needs help from their offense, and this is the week to put together the best game plan yet for Cooper Rush and company. With a mobile quarterback and a high-powered offense that the Eagles have, this defense is going to need help on the other side of the ball if the Cowboys want to win this game.
It is hard to imagine how good this offense can be until Dak Prescott returns, but this weekend on Sunday Night Football against the Eagles, the Cowboys need to get all of their pieces together to pull out a win and take the lead of their division.
