Travis Frederick Cements His Triumphant Return With A Pro Bowl Selection

You’d think your fifth Pro Bowl selection wouldn’t feel as special as your first. But for Travis Frederick, the fifth may be the most significant yet.

Five Pro Bowls since 2013 is a special accomplishment for anyone, but Frederick’s journey has been as special as ever. After Guillain-Barre syndrome stole a season from his prime, Frederick has worked himself back into form week by week. And while most would agree he hasn’t reached his peak, Frederick has earned himself the credibility to be in the 2020 Pro Bowl.

Of course, Pro Bowl selections are not the be-all end-all to signify great play. Often a popularity contest, fans and players alike have railed against the Pro Bowl selection system throughout time. But nothing, and I mean nothing, should take away from what Travis Frederick has accomplished in 2019.

“The work that he put in in the offseason and through training camp and throughout the year to get back to where he’s been is pretty incredible” – Cowboys guard Zack Martin on Frederick.

This time last season Travis Frederick could not lift weights. He couldn’t run, practice, or even carry his daughter up a flight of stairs. It was very much in jeopardy whether the All Pro center would ever play football again, but those doubts have now been answered with a Pro Bowl selection just one year removed from the terrible disease.

“After everything I’ve been through, this one means a lot to me” – Travis Frederick on his Pro Bowl selection.

Frederick’s impact spans well beyond the white lines. Up for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his efforts off the field in 2019, he’s proven to be as great a person as he is a football player.

He is well respected by his teammates, as indicated by the fact he was once voted team captain by his fellow players. He is well respected by the fans, as indicated by the Pro Bowl voting. And, of course, he is improving week by week to fully regain his former form and place among the elite offensive linemen.

This week the Cowboys travel to Philadelphia, looking to win the NFC East and clinch a home playoff game in January. And while it won’t be easy whatsoever, you certainly feel confident when you have a guy like Travis Frederick on your side.
