Trevon Diggs “Good to Go” for Seahawks Game After Injury Scare

Like many NFL teams in this wonky 2020 season, the Dallas Cowboys are currently riddled with injuries and missing players. The cornerback position has seen its share, but thankfully it appears rookie sensation Trevon Diggs won’t be one of them. Dallas’ new top CB should be ready to play this Sunday in their Week 3 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

The rookie Diggs has quickly emerged as the Cowboys’ best cornerback over Chidobe Awuzie, Anthony Brown, Jourdan Lewis, and other more experienced players. But he missed Wednesday’s practice with a shoulder issue, creating major concern as Dallas is already missing Awuzie and Brown due to injuries.

Thankfully, Trevon was back in practice on Thursday and there’s no reason to think he won’t be on the field in Seattle.

Even if they had their full CB depth chart available this Sunday, Dallas would still need Diggs to help slow down the Seahawks’ passing attack. Russell Wilson has been almost perfect so far in 2020, posting a 140 passer rating while leading Seattle to a 2-0 record.

But with their current injuries the Cowboys are probably turning to veteran journeyman Daryl Worley as a starter this week. He should join Diggs and Jourdan Lewis as the top three cornerbacks against the Seahawks; hardly what Dallas envisioned at the start of the season.

Anthony Brown went on injured reserve after hurting his ribs in the season opener and could return as soon as Week 5. Chidobe Awuzie’s timetable for returning is not so certain yet, having what was called a “multiweek hamstring injury” following last week’s victory over Atlanta.

Those absences certainly hurt, but having Diggs out there will mitigate some of the damage. Had the rookie also been unable to play this week then this road matchup for the Cowboys may have been asking too much.

Thankfully, we’ll get to keep seeing Trevon Diggs play and develop after his first two exciting weeks. He’s flashed elite coverage skills and play-making potential, and Dallas will probably need to win the turnover battle if they want to get out of Seattle with a victory.
