One of the biggest question marks for the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason was finding a new CB1 after losing Byron Jones to free agency. In the second round of the NFL Draft, the Cowboys filled that hole by drafting Trevon Diggs out of Alabama and set up an interesting competition between himself, Chidobe Awuzie, and Jourdan Lewis for the top corner spot. With both veterans currently nursing minor injuries, Diggs has gotten more opportunities in camp with the starting unit and he’s making them all count.
Cowboys rookie CB Trevon Diggs has seen more premium reps with starting CB Chidobe Awuzie recovering from minor ailment. Secondary coach Maurice Linguist said Diggs "has taken it and ran with it. …I like his confidence. …We're excited about him." Awuzie back soon.

It’s been well documented that Diggs has experience playing the wide receiver position. In an interview with ESPN San Antonio on Thursday, Diggs talked about how it helps him play corner more effectively.
“It helps me play the ball better, locating the ball, tracking the ball, having a feel for the ball, having a feel for routes,” Diggs said. “When receivers break down, I know when they’re really breaking and when they’re not breaking. Little things that I’ve done as a receiver that are just natural to me. It helped me be more fluid in my transition. I feel like it helped me a lot.”

The Cowboys have three dynamic receivers in Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and rookie CeeDee Lamb. The extra reps Diggs is getting is allowing him to deal with the growing pains of playing corner on the NFL level quickly which is something he’s more than willing to do.
“I’m a competitor,” Diggs said. “I like to compete. I feel like if you get me on that route once, you’re not going to get me on it twice. I like to build from my mistakes. I take all those lessons and learn from them.”

Diggs has been thrown to wolves so to speak early and his transition from the college ranks to the pros is going as planned. The Cowboys hit the jackpot with CeeDee Lamb in the first round and it appears they doubled down on their luck in the second round with Diggs.
