Defense, defense, and more defense. That will be the focus of the Dallas Cowboys draft strategy in April, and rightfully so. The interior of the Cowboys defense needs, cornerback needs to be looked at with Byron Jones hitting free agency, and the safety position still hasn’t fully been solved yet.
Even with all this being true, you can’t use every pick on defense. While improving a weakness, you still strengthen your strength and improve that as well, and with Quarterback Dak Prescott looking at a huge payday soon, you need to provide him with as many weapons as possible. UCF Wide Receiver Gabriel Davis is an interesting player to take a look at.
Davis was a three-year starter for the Knights, and he improved every season. As a freshman in 2017, he started all 13 games and registered 27 receptions for 391 yards and four touchdowns. A year later, he nearly doubled his production in every category with 53 receptions for 815 yards and seven touchdowns, garnering him a Second-Team All-AAC selection.

In 2019, Davis showed he was a receiver to be reckoned with as he took his numbers up to 72 receptions for 1,241 yards and 12 touchdowns, which included a First-Team All-AAC selection. He finished his collegiate career with 152 receptions for 2,447 yards and 23 touchdowns, highly productive.
At 6’2 216 pounds he’s a bigger receiver that uses his body to get separation. Possesses good straight-line speed that can beat guys deep as evident by his 4.54 time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. The idea of a receiving core with Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, possibly a re-signed Randall Cobb and Davis is an intriguing one.
Scouting report according to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein
The defense will and should be the focus early in the draft for the Cowboys, with the defensive line and secondary as the keys areas of need. However, if the third round rolls around and Gabriel Davis is setting there, the Cowboys could steal away a very good player.
