Ungrateful fans need to stop taking Dak Prescott for granted

Quarterback Dak Prescott is completely unappreciated by some Cowboys fans for the things he’s done for Dallas.

As if it isn’t enough that every major media outlet is just sitting and waiting to spotlight every failure, he has to deal with it from Cowboys fans themselves.

You will never make me understand the absolute hatred that half of the fan base has for Rayne Dakota Prescott.

There are many reasons to be grateful for the player that has taken the field at quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys since 2016.

He’s Kept Dallas Relevant

Prescott has a 61-36 career record as a starter.

Those 61 wins are tied for 5th in the NFL since 2016 when he was drafted out of Mississippi State.

The quarterbacks ahead of him? You might know their names.

Tom Brady
Aaron Rodgers
Patrick Mahomes
Russell Wilson

That’s the list. The only quarterbacks ahead of him for wins since 2016 are four quarterbacks with Super Bowl rings.

Dak has never quarterbacked the Cowboys to a losing season.

The only losing season Dallas has had since 2016 was the 2020 season.

That’s the year Prescott suffered the terrible injury four and a half games into the season.

With Andy Dalton, Ben DiNucci, and Garrett Gilbert at the helm the rest of the year, Dallas finished at 6-10.

Aside from that 2020 year missed due to injury, Prescott has had the Cowboys in the playoffs or within one game of clinching a spot every season he has started.

He Commands a High Scoring Offense

I tweeted out a stat this week that has half of the fanbase fighting the other half in the comments.

You can throw some Philadelphia Eagles fans in the mix as well.

Ungrateful fans need to stop taking Dak Prescott for granted

This stat hit home for me as a fan who lived through the barren wasteland of quarterbacks between Troy Aikman and Tony Romo.

Here’s a list of quarterbacks in that time for reference.

Vinny Testaverde
Randall Cunningham
Drew Henson
Chad Hutchinson
Anthony Wright
Clint Stoerner
Quincy Carter
Drew Bledsoe

Scoring a touchdown in those times required an act of Congress.

We didn’t pray for a touchdown when a drive started. We just prayed the offense wouldn’t go three & out.

A field goal or touchdown was just a bonus, and it felt like we should have a parade each time Dallas actually got into the endzone.

Tony Romo was a breath of fresh air, but even in his best season, he never matched the 30.1 points per game Prescott has.

He Is Not Turnover Prone

Dak resisters will look at this heading and probably scoff.

That would just be recency bias.

Yes, Prescott played in only 12 games in 2022, but somehow led the league with 15 interceptions.

Did you forget about the broken thumb that caused him to miss five games?

Dak broke a bone in the thumb of his throwing hand in Week 1 of the 2022 season versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Upon his return after missing five games, it was clear he was having some trouble with his control and accuracy.

To compound those issues, Prescott did not have starting caliber pass catchers at wide receiver.

This caused communication errors as well as errors in actual play. There wasn’t enough talent across the formation from CeeDee Lamb.

His Playoff Success Is Better Than You Think

Prescott has played in six playoff games since 2016.

In that same span, only seven quarterbacks have more appearances.

All of those seven quarterbacks have advanced past the Divisional round, but putting all of the blame on Dak for not accomplishing the same is absurd.

Somehow the logic is the Cowboys win in spite of Prescott, but when they lose it’s all his fault.

Based off of 2022 rosters, there are 22 other starting quarterbacks who have not advanced past the Divisional round either.

We don’t hear a peep about them.

As Cowboys fans, let big media bash Prescott if they want to. I will continue to defend him.

If you are a Cowboys fan who wants Dallas to move on from Prescott, you need to reassess the situation.

Be grateful. We are fortunate to have this man leading our team.
