The day has come when Carson Wentz is leaving yet another team. This time the Washington Commanders were the killers in Wentz’s career.
Carson Wentz has been bouncing around the NFL for quite a while now. For a man who was the 2nd pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, his career is starting to slip out of control.
After being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, Carson showed quick success there, as he led the Eagles to a 13-3 season. While being injured just before the playoffs, Quarterback Nick Foles would come in to help assist the Eagles. This led to their very first Super Bowl victory, all thanks to an injured Carson Wentz.
Up until the 2020 season, Wentz was the king of Philly, that is until Quarterback Jalen Hurts took over as the starting quarterback. Carson would be benched as the young player stepped into the newly awaited spotlight.
In 2021, the Eagles traded Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts for a first-round and third-round draft pick.
The Colts wouldn’t find much success with him though, as they ended up going 9-8 and missing the playoffs.
That’s when Wentz found himself being traded once again. This time, the Commanders were ready to scoop him up. This wouldn’t go any better, as Wentz would injure his finger while playing against the Chicago Bears mid-way through the year.
This would make him unable to play for most of the season and would put his future in grave jeopardy.
As of right now, the Commanders have released Wentz from the team. So what’s next for both Carson Wentz and the Commanders?
For Washington, the chances of them thriving to draft a quarterback this year has gone up. With so many quarterbacks on the board for this year’s draft, finding one won’t be too hard for the Commanders so I’m sure they’ll be fine.
As for Carson Wentz, the future is very unclear at the moment. While being a free agent, anyone could pick him up now, but the real question is, will they?
Wentz has been in the gutter for a while now and after a useless season with the Commanders, it’s hard to see any other teams trusting him at this point.
The best fit for Wentz right now will have to be a second-stringer somewhere. I can’t see a starting job for Wentz anywhere at the moment with the way his season in Washington went.
There are a few teams in need of a new quarterback but even with the desperation, they just aren’t going to trust Wentz anymore.
For now, be sure to keep an eye on the Commanders in this upcoming NFL draft. There is a chance that they will even trade up their own picks to get the #1 draft pick spot from the Chicago Bears. Unlikely, but so was Wentz’s downfall.
The 2023 NFL Draft is going to be very interesting for football fans, as the field keeps changing and changing for so many teams.
