What awards could Cowboys players receive this year?

In this great NFL season, the Cowboys are putting together some impressive stats on offense and defense. Many highlights and great plays have formed this year with the team, and the Cowboys are en route to entering the playoffs. With the end of the season slowly approaching, what are some awards players can win before the year ends?

Defensive Player of the Year:

Linebacker Micah Parsons is on the path to becoming the best defensive player in the league. There has only been one player in all of Cowboy history to win DPOY: Harvey Martin in 1977. Taking home this award would be huge for both Parsons and the Cowboys.

After last year (Micah Parsons’s rookie year) he came so close to winning but fell short, this year he made it his goal to win it. The only other front runners in this battle are Defensive End Nick Bosa and Defensive Lineman Chris Jones. Parsons at the moment is the favorite to win this award.

NFL Coach of the Year:

This one is a little bit of a long shot, but It’s still possible. Head Coach Mike McCarthy has shown some great improvement from earlier in the season and is on somewhat of a track to win NFL Coach of the Year. He is sitting in 4th place right now behind the Eagles, Jets, and Vikings coaches.

All three of those front-running coaches are very good and have turned those franchises around rather fast. McCarthy would have to have some very big games and score a lot of points if he wants to get back up to the first place for this award.

Offensive Player of the Year:

It another somewhat of a long shot, but with the number of games still left, I wouldn’t be too surprised If it were to happen. Running Back Tony Pollard sure has made a case for why he should be considered as a candidate for the OPOY award.

After so many highlights and great stats, Tony should be on the leaderboard. At the moment he is not on it but with still games to play he could make a serious run in the rankings. I would love to see the rankers put his name close to the top toward the end of the year.

No matter what, the awards are not one of the main focuses for Cowboy players. After last season’s sad ending in the 2022 Wild card games, the team is pushing all attention to winning games and making a playoff push.

It would be nice to see the team win some awards this year but I think fans would be more interested in having a huge postseason and having the mindset in the players to go to the Superbowl.
