What trading for Trey Lance means for the Cowboys

As you probably know by now, the Dallas Cowboys traded for former 3rd overall pick Trey Lance for a 4th round pick.

If not, well, know you do.

So, what exactly does this mean for the Dallas Cowboys?

Well, I promise you it doesn’t mean much for Dak Prescott.

For all you folks who think that a guy who couldn’t beat out Sam Darnold for the backup spot in San Francisco will all of a sudden be the savior for a team that hasn’t won anything in 25 years, is crazy.

Lance is a project and didn’t want to be with the Niners. His walking out of practice earlier this week shows it.

Lance played eight total games in the last two seasons, including four starts.

Lance was the 49ers’ starting quarterback going into 2022, but his year ended when he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2.

The Niners announced on Wednesday that Lance would be the third string, and because of that, he did not want to be with the Niners.

Outlook for Dallas

The outlook for Dallas mostly stays the same. Lance will come in and be the backup behind both Prescott and Cooper Rush.

Lance is still an unproven player who the 49ers legit just gave up on.

Lance now gets to work behind Prescott and an offensive head coach who has been around Brett Farve and Aaron Rodgers.

This doesn’t hurt the Cowboys at all. It is a low give for a potential high reward if something happens to Prescott in the near future and Lance somehow makes his way into the starting job.

The Cowboys have had a second-round grade on him. They now get him for the next two years.

I have said many times that if Prescott does not make at least the NFC Championship game this season with his best roster ever, then I will be close to the end of my time with Dak.

Let’s hear it from our fans. This year hasn’t won anything in 25-plus years, blah blah. I understand that.

I am also a Cubs and Nuggets fan. I witnessed the Cubs win the World Series in 2016 for the first time in over ONE HUNDRED YEARS.

My Nuggets won their first NBA title in franchise history this past season. Dating back over 40 years.

You will never see me give up on the Dallas Cowboys. Not after what I have seen my other favorite teams do, the Championship droughts ended. It will happen at some point.

It just comes a point where all it takes is one year.

This team will make the playoffs again, and when they do it becomes anyone’s game.

Trading for Lance is going to be at the top of every single talk show Monday morning, afternoon and night.

The most talked about player this offseason goes to the most talked about football team in the world.

We will see how this all plays out, but for right now, this means absolutely nothing for the Dallas Cowboys, and believe what you want, it won’t change.
