Will Micah Parsons have Repeat Success in his Second Season?

Micah Parsons was selected in the first round by the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL draft. I can sit here and tell you I was one of the guys who was not a fan of selecting him as early as 12.

Parsons opted out of the 2020 college season due to concerns regarding the national pandemic and declined his remaining years of college eligibility in favor of being draft ready.

After his first season, I am glad to be on the wrong side of this one. I was eying Patrick Surtain II.

Parsons would finish his rookie campaign with 84 total tackles, 13 sacks, and three forced fumbles. He was voted into the Pro Bowl, named first-team All-Pro by the AP, and was the unanimous Defensive Rookie of the Year. He even gathered five votes for Defensive Player of the Year.

As Parsons moves into his second year, could we see repeat success for him or am I crazy to think he will have a chance to break the sack record?

Parsons is the type of player every single team wants. He can single-handedly make the defense better. It’s so hard to ask a player of his caliber to put his hand in the ground every play. At the same time, you can’t just ask him to drop back in coverage either. He is just that good.

When you look at it this way, I suppose it is a good problem. Parsons should be even more productive next season under Dan Quinn’s system.

He should be a lock, if healthy, to be another first-team All-Pro player again. I think he will eclipse 15 sacks. He may even give DeMarcus Ware a run for his record of 20.

I think Parsons ends his second season with 16 sacks and 70 solo tackles. Next season should be a repeat type year for Parsons.
