The Dallas Cowboys offseason has come to an end as their first regular-season game begins on September 9th. That game will feature the Dallas Cowboys vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday @ 7:20 pm CST on NBC.
All of the Cowboys’ 2021 draft picks made the team which bodes well for the future. One player, in particular, is CB Nahshon Wright, who was the team’s most criticized pick in which will play as the number two cornerback against the Buccaneers.
Wright’s 6’4 frame is what every defensive coordinator would love to have on the outside to knock down balls and use his arms to jam the receiver. No doubt he has all the physical traits but the challenge will be how he responds after a bad play. During the preseason, he fought down after down which shows his toughness as a player.
Jori Epstein, an NFL reporter for the Dallas Cowboys, tweeted how Wright is still learning the speed of the NFL. He noted going against the talented WR trio (Amari Cooper, Ceedee Lamb, and Michael Gallup) every day in practice helps slow the game down a bit for him.
At 6-4 with 32 7/8-inch arms, Cowboys rookie CB Nahshon Wright knows his length will be an edge on deep balls. Next goal?
“Learning to be a lot quicker,” he tells us. “Working on that continuously.” Facing “what I would say is the best receiving corps” helps him gauge NFL tempo. pic.twitter.com/I7hurtAAmX

Experiencing the growing pains in practice will pay its dividends against opposing receivers in real live action. Wright has his fellow teammate in Diggs to learn a few tricks from as he had his share of ups and downs last season guarding the opposing team’s number one receiver.
It is possible Wright may take a few weeks or so to get acclimated to the NFL speed before we see some consistent play. Hopefully, Cowboys fans can be patient and understand the tough task cornerbacks face week in and out as they do not immediately become a shutdown or top-five player in their rookie season.
Unlike Diggs, Wright does not have to come in from week one and be assigned to the opposing team’s best receiver as he will get their second option. It may be cases where they will shift the best player to his side of the field, but Quinn will do his best to create matchups that will not put him in an unfavorable position.
We will see how Wright handles his weekly matchups against opposing offenses and why the Cowboys were so high on him during the draft. Furthermore, Wright has support from his coaches and teammates. The question is, will he be up to the challenge to man down the number two spot?
