With The Cowboys, Gerald McCoy Is Ready To Do Something He’s Never Done Before

Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has had quite the career.

A former All Pro, six time Pro Bowler, and dominate force on the interior of the defensive line since 2010, McCoy is ready to break another personal record this season.

By playing in five primetime games with the Dallas Cowboys.

Gerald McCoy was apart of the Cowboys official schedule release special, and spoke to how excited he is for the newfound spotlight with America’s Team.

McCoy said that excluding Thursday night games, he’s only played in four primetime games his entire nine-year career. He spent that time mostly with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining the Carolina Panthers last season, so he hasn’t seen much meaningful late season action either.

Hopefully that will change along with his primetime spotlight in Dallas.

Ironically, Gerald McCoy’s only Sunday night experience came against the Cowboys back in 2016, when his Buccaneers traveled to Dallas to face rookie sensation Dak Prescott. Dallas is scheduled to play in three Sunday night games this season, and there are some very obvious flex options later in the season as well.

He went on to speak about another date which sparked his interest, the Thanksgiving day game with the Washington Redskins.

“Thanksgiving? I grew up watching these games…Everybody is tuned in on Thanksgiving and everyone is going to watch the Cowboys.”

Primetime games are not the only time the world is watching the Dallas Cowboys. Almost as important are those late afternoon Sunday games, where the Cowboys play in “America’s Game of the Week.” Right now, Dallas is slotted in five of those matchups, including a late December game which could determine the NFC East with the Philadelphia Eagles.

McCoy’s energy and excitement is contagious. He seems genuinely amped up to be a Dallas Cowboy, and to have a chance to contribute to what many are calling an NFC favorite.

Let’s hope he’s got another 5-7 sacks left in the tank to show off on those primetime games.

Die-hard Cowboys fan from the Northeast, so you know I am here to defend the 'boys whenever necessary. Began writing for a WordPress Cowboys Blog, and have been with ITS since 2016.
